American Legion Hosts Ski/Board Event

By Eva Potter

Spring is a great time to gather all your skiing/boarding equipment and accessories to evaluate whether or not you can live with it another year.

Whether you’re justifying a new purchase because of safety reasons, you’re ready to update your style profile or you’re bored with what you have and are ready for something new, check out the 10-Hour Ski and Snowboard Super Sale this Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22.

The Ellicottville American Legion is hosting this sale event at 6500 Maples Rd. in Ellicottville from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

You know that sexy pair of skis you’ve been eyeing, the gorgeous jacket in the perfect shade of blue you can’t live without, that glossy black high-tech helmet? Well, they can all be yours this weekend. Come early to get the best deals in town!

Spring is the best time to buy and save big on ski and snowboard gear. The four participating businesses in this year’s annual spring sale include Mud, Sweat N’ Gears, The City Garage, Dekdebrun’s and The Boardroom. For the past five years, these local ski shops have set aside a weekend in March to clear their inventory in order to make room for spring gear, and guess who benefits the most? You!

While it’s easy to stop at one of these sales to browse through the inventory, it’s not nearly as easy to choose the products that might be best for you. That’s why experienced and knowledgeable sales staff from each of the participating stores will be working the sale to answer all your questions and help you find the perfect personalized fit.

Not sure about the best ski boot for your foot ailments? Looking for a helmet that lets you jam to tunes as you carve the mountain? Need a high-tech binding to mount on the new skis you can’t live without? No worries. Staff is available to help you decide.

This year, Mud Sweat N’ Gears said it will be bringing a wide variety of goods to the sale. A clerk at the store said buyers can expect to see “outerwear, skis, snowboards, boots, maybe some helmets, some shoes and regular street shoes” and other items.

Greg Dekdebrun, owner of Dekdebrun’s and an organizer of the event, said, “Everything at the sale will be 50 percent off the MSRP. Items included will be skis, ski boots, ski bindings, ski poles, snow boards, boots and bindings, cross-country equipment, snowshoes, lots of clothing, ski/boot bags, after ski boots and footwear.”

City Garage’s Trey Clauss said, “We’re going to be doing skis, boots, poles, bindings, clothing. We don’t really do any of the small stuff. We run it kind of the same way that we do our Fall Festival sale.”

Claus said buyers can expect to find “deep discounts” from the City Garage.

The Boardroom Snowboard Shop will be offering sale pricing on “helmets, outerwear, layering pieces, and hard goods as well, bindings, boots and boards.” Savings are expected to range from 30–50 percent.

Get your new gear now and enjoy it during these last weeks of fantastic spring conditions on the slopes.
