The Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning, and Tourism will hold an informational seminar for Municipal Leaders and is open to the public on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Cattaraugus County Center, 303 Court Street, Little Valley, NY. The seminar will be held on the third floor in the Legislative Chambers and will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism Director, Crystal Abers would like to invite Town, Village and City Officials, Planning, and Zoning Board Members, Cattaraugus County Legislators and the public to this seminar. The guest speaker will be Sally Cunningham, Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional. The topic to be discussed will include how the Transformational Power of Gardening builds communities and changes the image (and reality) of a region.
Sally’s talk is designed to encourage dialogue about the potential for applying the power of gardening to our own landscapes, community and region. Transformational Power of Gardening – in many ways gardening is a catalyst for change; it builds communities. When neighbors garden together or improve their front yards new relationships and mutual respect follow. The area becomes safer and real estate values improve. Garden tourism is also powerful as an image changer and economic boon. Evidence comes from Buffalo’s nationally famous Garden Walk, bringing 70,000 people in to see urban gardens on just one weekend and now a national garden writer conference is coming.
Gardening is also crucial in these times of ecological challenges and habitat destruction. What we do in our gardens matters greatly!
Gardening is also good for mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health (as long as we do it carefully).
Along with being a Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional, Sally Cunningham has been a speaker at many events across the nation; she has been the author or co-author of many books in the last 25 years and is a Horticultural Specialist and Columnist on TV and Radio. We are very pleased to welcome Sally as our Guest Speaker on May 11.
