OLEAN – Since October 1, 2013, NYS Small Businesses could enroll their employees into the SHOP – Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) Marketplace. Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce will host two seminars to educate small businesses about the health reform law, address their current insurance coverage needs, and help inform the design and development of the marketplace. The seminars (both with similar format) will be held Thursday, June 5 at 8 a.m., and Tuesday, June 10 at 11:45 a.m.  Both will be at the chamber office, 120 North Union St. in Olean.

“1,319,239 New Yorkers have completed their applications and 960,762 have enrolled for coverage since the launch of the Marketplace on October 1, 2013. More than 70 percent of those who have enrolled to date were uninsured at the time of application. Activity remains high at the NY State of Health Customer Service Center with more than 55,000 calls answered over the last week. The Customer Service Center has answered more than 1 million calls since the launch of the Marketplace,” according to the latest report from the NY State of Health.

The update will showcase tax credits for small businesses that offer health insurance to their employees. The credits are available for tax years 2010 to 2015 and offer up to 50 percent of premiums paid. Also, for those not insured, triggering events exist to enroll you during “off enrollment” periods.
