Race season continues this fall, and what better way to burn off some calories than gathering friends and family and joining in?

Whether you’re in it to win it or just for the camaraderie, hitting the pavement or hitting the trails, this October will surely be memorable for races in Ellicottville.

Fall Fest weekend in Ellicottville means many traditions for thousands of people, and the annual 5K could be one of your newest traditions while at the village’s largest festival of the year.

On Saturday, Oct. 12 at 9:30 a.m., head to Holiday Valley for a 5K race on area roads held during Fall Festival Weekend. Runners take to the local streets on this fun, challenging and climbing finish course.

Compete for awards in 5-year age groups, enjoy a great post-race party and great door prizes. Help support the HEART Animal Shelters and the Holiday Valley Ski Patrol and see how you stack up against hundreds of runners during Fall Festival Weekend.

The following day, mountain bikers have their turn during the annual Fall Festival Mountain Bike Race. Grab your bike and test your skill on a wicked 4.7-mile course starting at 10 a.m. Oct. 13. Roots, rocks and white-knuckle action are guaranteed.

Racers in several different classes from several surrounding states compete for awards and prizes in a fun and challenging course filled with challenging climbs, amazing single-track and fun/challenging downhill sections.  Pre-register or head down on race-day to register.

The following weekend, HoliMont will host its annual HoliCX Cyclocross Race on Oct. 19.

Combining the colorful landscape, cool crisp air and smell of nature with a zig-zag course, a splash of mud, some grass and a handful of barriers, the fourth annual HoliCX race has everything a biking enthusiast could want.

If you like to watch other people suffer where heckling and cowbells are not only allowed but encouraged, then come out and enjoy the fun as a spectator as well.

Then on Oct. 26, runners and walkers of all abilities can enjoy the weekend before Halloween with the EVL Halloween Half.

This fun-filled Halloween-themed event will feature a half marathon and a 5k through the village and surrounding hills of Ellicottville. The race will also benefit local charity partners, the Ellicottville Sports Boosters, a group dedicated to getting local children involved in athletics, as well as the local food pantry.

Participants are invited to run in costume and enjoy other Halloween related activities. If you love running, wearing costumes, meeting other people and having a great time, the EVL Half is for you.
