Learn Voice Acting and Act in Live Radio Drama on Dec. 20 and 21 – Many Parts Needed

Springville Center for the Arts and Aural Stage Studios will present a radio drama workshop beginning on Dec. 3. Participants will work together to produce the show “It’s a Wonderful Life” as a radio broadcast on WSPQ 1330AM on Dec. 20 and 21 with a live audience in the theater. There’s no memorization or physical acting required, just voice acting for the microphone.

Participants will fill all roles, on the microphone, producing sound effects or serving as the technical crew. The casting requires a broad mix of males and females of many ages. Children may also participate. The production requires three or four sound effects artists and any interested individuals will be trained in the great art of Foley.

Matthew Boudreau, Monique Boudreau and Sophie Howes will instruct the class. Matthew J. Boudreau has a BA in Writing and Technical Theatre with focuses in Storytelling and Sound. He is a founder, voice actor and technical director for Aural Stage Studios, an audio production company working out of Buffalo and New York City. His audio work has been featured in the independent films “The Big Bad,” “25 Cents for Love and Spinning,” as well as the American Globe Theatre’s video production of Hamlet. He is also the lead sound designer on the award-winning audio dramas “1918,” “Intensive Care,” and “The Cleansed.”

Sophia Howes is a BFA acting graduate of SUNY Fredonia. Her most recent credits include Jenny in Subversive Theater’s “The Shape of Things,” Shakespeare in Delaware Park’s “Hamlet” as the Player Queen, Edith Frank in TADA’s “The Diary of Anne Frank,” and Matron Mama Morton in TADA’s production of “Chicago.”

Auditions to assign roles will take place on the first workshop date of Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Carol Mongerson Theater, Springville Center for the Arts, 37 North Buffalo St. in Springville.

Preparation of a specific reading is not necessary. Workshops and rehearsals run Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings in December with additional responsibilities the week of the show. The cost to participate is $45. Call (716) 592-9038 for more information and to register for the class.
