A shorthanded Ellicottville team dropped its playoff opener, as Pine Valley built a 31-5 halftime lead, holding the Eagles to one point in the second quarter in a 50-19 Section 6 Class D quarterfinal loss.
Kayla Hohl led Pine Valley (14-7) with 21 points Thursday and Katelyn Miller added 13.
Evelyn Cortez had eight points for the Eagles (10-11).
“We had three girls on a school trip to Costa Rica, another one on vacation,” explained Ellicottville coach Chad Bartoszek. “We were playing a little bit of half JV, half varsity.”
