What better way to start the new year than to try a new sport?

On Wednesday, Jan. 2, Allegany Nordic Ski Patrol and the Environmental Education Department have teamed up to host an evening cross country ski on the Art Roscoe trails of Allegany State Park followed by a social in the Summit Warming Hut.

Cross country skiing is an excellent low impact exercise, easy to learn and a lifetime sport. Allegany Nordic Patrol will be on hand to help and give tips to newcomers. All levels are welcome as we head into the woods for an evening ski on trails. Bring a headlamp, your sense of adventure and something to share for the social.

Rental equipment will be available for a special price at the Summit Warming Hut from 5 to 6 p.m. Come early to get fitted properly. The program starts at 6 p.m. with a short clinic.

The Outdoor Adventure Series is a great way to learn about all the fun activities offered within Allegany State Park.

Please register for this event before 3 p.m. the day of the program. For more information, contact the Environmental Education/ Recreation Department at 354-9101 ext. 236 or AlleganySP@parks.ny.gov.
