Make Your Health a Priority

Springville, N.Y. – This October, Bertrand Chaffee Hospital is proud to participate in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women. About one in eight women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point. The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.

For 2014, the American Cancer Society estimates that more than 230,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer — or more than 600 per day. Talk to a doctor about your risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member of yours has had breast or ovarian cancer. Your doctor can help you decide when and how often to get mammograms.

The imaging department at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital encourages all women to take time each month to do a breast self-exam. And if you are a woman over the age of 40, make your health a priority and schedule a mammogram every year or as recommended by your doctor. Mammography can detect cancer at its most treatable and early stages.

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital is a Pink Ribbon Facility™ and offers state-of-the-art digital mammography with convenient evening hours. Contact (716) 592-8169 for an appointment or more information.
