This time of year is all about festive events and the anticipation of the holiday and ski seasons.

This weekend, the Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) will once again assemble the region’s talented fine artists and artisans for the Winter Arts Festival on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Holiday Valley Main Lodge. Visitors will find original handmade gifts for their holiday shopping list from among the many booths displaying paintings, prints, photographs, pottery, jewelry, baskets, wood carving and fiber arts. In addition to giving your friends and family one-of-a-kind gifts, you’ll be supporting local artists and artisans. Don’t miss out on your chance to find unique holiday gifts for everyone on your list! See page 9 for more info.

If you’d rather spend your time in the lodge fastening up your ski boots or sipping on hot chocolate between runs, your wait is almost over. Holiday Valley’s tentative opening day is scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 24. With the dropping temps, snowmaking began late last week and it’s beginning to look a lot like ski and snowboard season!

Get ready to hit the slopes and enjoy endless winter fun and over $3 million in improvements, including an automated snowmaking system, a Magic Carpet lift in the beginner’s area, new trails, and an all-new Cindy’s Warming Hut and Mistletoe Lean To.
