Whether it’s in like a lion and out like a lamb, or the opposite of that, March in Ellicottville is chock full of activities for everyone. Fast-paced, family-friendly, laughter-inducing or just plain fun, enjoy it all as ski season winds down and we welcome spring.

Saturday, March 4 is the annual Phoenix Rise to the Challenge Race at HoliMont. This popular race features participants in HoliMont’s Phoenix Adaptive program, as well as competitors from all over WNY, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Canada and beyond. See the article beginning on this page.

Scouts can enjoy a day on the slopes with their scouting group during Holiday Valley’s Scout Days, March 4-5. Special pricing offers an 8-hour lift ticket for $31, lift and lesson $35, lift lesson and rental $45. Helmet rental $6. On March 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., join the folks at Adventure Bound for a snowshoe/cross country ski loop. There will be two routes—one for beginners and one more advanced—and then all gather around the fire at Spruce Lake and share some s’mores and hot chocolate. March 10-12, don’t miss the highlight of the winter in Ellicottville during Mardi Gras and Winter Carnival Weekend!

Friday, March 10 will feature the Junior Bacchus Ball with a King and Queen pageant, held upstairs at Madigan’s, from 7 to 9 p.m. The private gala will feature New Orleans-style food and a great night of fun. Purchase tickets at www.ellicottvilleny.com.

The annual parade will be held on Saturday, March 11. Grab some beads and come check out floats with the theme of “Where we have been and where we are going in Ellicottville.” Want in on the parade? Over at Holiday Valley, the party goes all weekend long with fun activities and events for the whole family. Highlights include the Snowbar at Yodeler with music and fun and the costume parade down Mardi Gras on Sunday where the winner gets a season pass for next year, and everyone’s favorite— the Dummy Downhill! Always another great time on the slopes, the annual Pond Skimming returns to Holiday Valley on Saturday, March 18. Sign up to skim across an ice water filled pond or come cheer on your favorite competitors.

If you love tubing, get to Holiday Valley Tubing Company! The tubing park offers up to 22 lanes of fast-paced downhill fun, two tows to pull you back up, and a ‘Lil Tubers area for the tykes. The next few weeks are also the last of the season to hop on the Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster during its winter season. The coaster, located by Holiday Valley’s Tannenbaum Lodge, lets guests ride up in their own car, then control their own speed on the twisting, turning way back down. It’s not too early to start thinking about next year’s fun on the slopes. Purchase your 2017-18 Holiday Valley Classic Season Passes or Ultimate Passes through April 30 for the best rates! Maple producers across New York will be hosting open houses for the public to see how maple syrup and other related products are made.
