The Ellicottville Little Eagles and the Franklinville Panthers split victories in their little league matches held Sunday, Sept. 11 in Franklinville.

The Pee Wee Little Eagles returned to the field after a previous week’s loss to triumph over the Panthers in a 21-0 battle. Head coach Mark Chudy said, “After a tough loss last week, the pee wee squad had a great week of practice and Sunday the kids were ready. The Little Eagles beat a good Franklinville team.” Touchdowns were recorded by Carter Smith, Hunter Smith, and Reese Benjamin. Extra points were run in by Owen Chudy, Hunter Smith and David Thompson.

In a touching opening ceremony, the teams joined each other on the field during the Star Spangled Banner shoulder-to-shoulder in memory of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. These young men and women will join together as one team when entering high school athletics as the Franklinville-Ellicottville Titans.

Dropping to 3-1 on the season, the Midget Little Eagles were unable to mount a comeback to lose the battle in an exciting back and forth game 13-6. Head coach Tim Grinols said, “We lost a close one to Franklinville. We will get back to working hard and work on getting a win for the next game. Franklinville Panthers played a very good game.”

The Eagles will face the Seneca Sachems on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Irving with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
