Letter to the Editor

I never get tired of this town!
While I am a transplant, after 30 years living in this once sleepy little town, I can’t get enough of its warmth, charm and generosity! It is with this in mind that I would like to thank all those involved with the Stone Soup Dinner and Concert for its success.
Saturday evening brought 72 people to the United Church of Ellicottville for “Stone Soup.” This number doesn’t include the volunteers or those who enjoyed dinner AFTER the concert. We enjoyed bottomless bowls of clam chowder, vegan lentil, and a lovely vegetable beef soup. Freshly baked bread and a crisp salad accompanied the meal, which was followed up by pastries baked just that morning. Needless to say, no one went away hungry!
After dinner, we were WOWED by the voices and energy of the Ellicottville Sound Chorus. One couldn’t help but smile while these artists poured their hearts and souls into a “hobby” that they truly enjoy. The passion for their craft was obvious in all the members of the group, which ranged in age from 18 to “90 something.” How many hobbies can you think of that are so inclusive?
What touched me most was the feeling of community that permeated the event. Guests lingered and socialized and just plain ENJOYED ONE ANOTHER! It is evident that this could become an annual event.
In terms of financial success, it is stunning to note that we (as a collective community) raised over $2,000 for the COMMUNITY Food Pantry. While I risk forgetting someone, I think it necessary to mention all those involved in the success of this fundraiser.
