The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has a long-term closure of Interstate 86, between Exits 21 and 23 on the Allegany Territory of the Seneca Nation, Cattaraugus County, in effect for approximately five months to facilitate construction.

Due to the Interstate 86 closure, eastbound and westbound traffic are currently detoured using Route 417. Temporary traffic signals have been installed at the intersections of Route 417 and Business Route 219 at Exit 23, and at Route 417 (Wildwood Drive) and Route 219 (Central Avenue) to help control traffic flow; however motorists are advised to expect delays.

As a result of the detour, motorists en route to the city of Salamanca may want to consider using an alternate route utilizing southbound Route 219, westbound Route 242, southbound Route 353 and westbound Route 417 to Interstate 86.
