Interstate 86 between Exit 21 at Parkway Drive in Salamanca and Exit 23 at Seneca Junction/Limestone will be closed to all traffic in both directions beginning in mid-May and continuing through mid-October.
In addition, one lane in both directions between Exit 20 (Seneca Allegany Casino) and Exit 21 currently are closed and likely will be for at least several more months.
According to the NY DOT’s regional construction engineer Dan Paskie, the entire roadway in both directions between exits 21 and 23 (there is no exit 22) will be completely reconstructed. Repairs are being done on the roadway between exits 20 and 21, and the ramps at exit 20 will be slightly reconfigured.
During construction, exit 20 will remain open, but exits 21 and 23 will be closed. Eastbound traffic will have to exit at exit 20; westbound traffic will exit at exit 23.
All traffic will detour onto Route 417. Detour signage will be posted at least a week before closures begin and will remain in place until the road reopens.
Construction of the project was awarded to Union Concrete Construction Corp. on Jan. 23, 2014. The company faces penalties if work is not completed on time.
