The most recent preseason race was held at HoliMont on New Year’s Eve 2017. This was a Giant Slalom that consisted of two runs down the infamous ‘Wild Turkey’ run.

Holiday Valley’s U16 Women showed once again what a powerhouse this team is. Lauren Thomas took the gold for U16 and overall. Teammate Logan Fredrickson walked away with the silver medal, Sierra Cappelli finished 4th, Hayly Fredrickson 5th and Caroline DeRose 6th. Rory Sauereisen finished 12th, Kate Masliwec of HoliMont took 13th, Megan Peters (HO) 15th, Kate Carter (HO) 18th, Claire Taylor (HV) 21st, Brooke Willer (HV) 22nd and Evelyn Polly (HV) finished 23rd.

For the U21/19 Women, Holiday Valley’s Taylor Hubert finished with the gold and 2nd overall. Katherine Wojnowski (HV) took the silver and Zoe Knauss (HO) rounded out the podium in 3rd and Phoebe Dunn (HV) placed 7th.

On the men’s end, Holiday Valley’s Nathan Briselden (U21/19) won the race by a whopping 2.38 seconds which is an eternity in Ski Racing. For the remainder of U21/19 Men, HoliMont’s Maxxon Solly walked away with the bronze medal and Joshua Allegra (HV) finished 4th. Nicholas Scott (HV) placed 9th, Jes Sauereisen (HV) 10th, William Peters (HO) 11th, Christian Taylor (HV) 14th and Connor Galton (HV) 16th.

U16 Men Holiday Valley’s Alexander Wojnowski made his season debut, finding himself on the podium in 3rd. Dalton Potter (HV) finished 7th, Will Knauss (HO) 10th, Mitchell Azcarate (HV) 12th, David Rintoul (HO) 17th, William Dunn (HV) 20th, Lachlan Deathe (HO) 23rd and John Smillie (HV) 24th.

The next races will be Empire Cup Slaloms held at Holiday Valley and HoliMont on Jan. 6 and 7, respectively. If you are around, stop out and check out some great racing! Check out next week’s paper for full results.
