Hi, I’m Kim’s ghostwriter this week. I just passed a major milestone birthday that I don’t want to talk about and I have MUSCLES! I’m in the best physical shape of my adult life and it’s all thanks to exercise with Kim.
Almost three years ago, my husband suggested that I try personal training at Core Performance. I have always considered exercise to be a four-letter word and the only type I have ever enjoyed was swimming. I was never a team sport person or a fitness nut. I was worried about my diminishing strength. I had constant pain in my right knee and both of my elbows throbbed. I couldn’t pick up a full Brita pitcher with one hand and I was using my arms to stand up from the couch, I blamed the springs but it was really my lack of strength.
Kim did a fitness assessment and I’m sure she thought, “this chick is a mess”. I couldn’t get up off the floor gracefully. I could barely do a pushup standing with my hands on a counter. But as bad as I was, Kim was willing to work with me. We started slowly and she always took into account my bad knee. I still don’t do any jumping stuff.
I recall swearing about certain exercises and honestly calling Kim some not very nice names while she had me doing chest flies with baby weights. At the end of a session, we stretch and I complained about the child’s pose. Kim said nobody dislikes that move—well, nobody had as much belly in the way as I did. I used to dread walking to her studio and I literally dragged myself the ½ block home after a session.
I’ve been at it for 34 months now, three days a week for 30 minutes. I can do chest flies now with 15-pound weights. My bat wing arms are no longer flapping, I can actually see muscle in my arms and I look forward to our sessions.
I still don’t love exercise, but I wish I had started this at 37 or 47 rather than waiting until 57 to get fit. The bottom line is that it is never too late to start. I don’t see one of those “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” beepers in my future because I can get up now, gracefully. My newfound strength has helped all my aches and pains, the elbows don’t hurt at all and although I still don’t fully trust my knee, it really doesn’t hurt anymore. My life has improved and so has my skiing, and it’s all thanks to lifting those #@$#&$% weights at Core Performance with Kim. It really is never to late to get fit.
