As August approaches, Great Valley native Priscilla Snider is closing in on a personal challenge—taking part in the Empire Ride, a seven-day cycling adventure across New York State to support cutting-edge cancer research at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The ride goes from New York City to Niagara Falls, from July 30 to Aug. 5.
According to Snider, “This is more than just a bike ride. I am participating in a 500+ mile adventure across New York State to fight cancer.” Snider noted this is a huge personal challenge and while she did complete a 500-mile trip across Virginia, that was in 1976 when she was 20.
“Everyone knows someone whose life has been affected by cancer, and this is my opportunity to change the state of cancer research for good,” Snider explained.
In February 2012, Snider was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. She feels very fortunate that her body responded well to chemo, radiation and surgery.
“I am very grateful to all the wonderful people I met at Roswell Park,” she said.
Snider has participated in the Ride For Roswell each year since 2013 and this year, is looking to complete the much bigger challenge of rising across the state.
Part of Snider’s challenge is raising $3,500, and she is asking the community for their support.
