OLEAN, N.Y.– Several local nonprofits as well as a scholarship will receive support through a new fund established at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation in memory of a Great Valley couple.

The Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Fund was established by their daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Paul Hanson of Olean.

Mr. Janowicz was a long-time employee of Dresser-Rand and Conrail, and Mrs. Janowicz was a school bus driver for the Ellicottville School District.

Each year beginning in 2015, a portion of the fund will provide for a new scholarship — the Paul and Mary Janowicz Memorial Scholarship. This $500 award will be for a graduating senior from Ellicottville Central School who plans to attend a two- or four-year college and who demonstrates academic excellence and financial need.

“This scholarship is especially poignant because Mrs. Janowicz met and got to know so many children in the Ellicottville School District on her many daily bus runs,” explained Karen Niemic Buchheit, CRCF executive director.

As well as the annual scholarship, the fund will make annual grants to the Great Valley Volunteer Fire Company, Olean General Hospital Foundation’s Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center Fund and the Olean Public Library.

“This fund is a wonderful way for the family to remember Paul and Mary Janowicz and support some of the organizations they cared about during their lifetime,” Mrs. Buchheit said.
