Battling a gusting wind on Friday night, Sept. 13, that made passing almost impossible, Franklinville/Ellicottville and Randolph were forced to run to move the ball and score points.

It was an ideal climate for the Titans, who rushed through and around the Cardinals for 354 yards and a 28-6 Section 6, Class D football victory.

Logan Frank led F/E (2-0) with 175 yards on 20 carries and three touchdowns. Jordan Grinols also cracked the 100-yard mark with 103 on 14 rushes to help the Titans rip off 28 straight points after they fell behind late in the first quarter.

“I thought in the first half that we struggled getting our run game going,” F/E coach Jason Marsh said. “In the second half we were more in control of the game. We were executing up front and moving bodies.”

Randolph (1-1) opened the scoring a on 22-yard run from Xander Hind. The Cardinals were struck in neutral the rest of the way, however, as the Titans limited them to 54 total yards.

“Our defense was stout,” Marsh said. “We had one series on defense where we had some miscues. They had a drive with two big plays in it. Randolph runs the option well and we missed a couple assignments. But our defense settled in and played extremely well after that.”

Randolph didn’t attempt a pass while F/E misfired on each of its four attempts.

Frank made up for the lack of passing by scoring on runs of 68 and 1 yards in the second quarter and adding a 3-yard plunge in the fourth. In between, Grinols hit the endzone on a 40-yard scamper.

Frank also put up three TD runs in an impressive season-opening win over Allegany-Limestone last week.

“I thought we’d be able to run the ball,” Marsh said in summing up F/E’s two victories. “We have some good athletes and experience up front. I thought we built on what we did last week. Hopefully we improve and move forward as the weeks go on.”
