HoliMontIs winter a season that you look forward to rather than dread?  Would a new set of skis or snowboard deck be your idea of the perfect holiday gift?  Does the prospect of putting snow tires on your vehicle put a smile on your face?  If so, then HoliMont might just be the place for you.

Membership at HoliMont is an experience that is difficult to put into words because it really is just that; a genuine winter experience.  Sure, you can envision tipping your skis on edge and engaging your freshly tuned Salomon Enduro XT 850’s into pristinely groomed corduroy and ripping down a Black Diamond slope, but until you actually put yourself in a position where you can feel the chill of the Western New York winter air against your face as you cruise down a slope, your vision of what it must be like is minute in comparison to the real thing.

Located just outside of the quaint village of Ellicottville, NY, HoliMont Ski Area is unique in comparison to many of its ski resort brethren. HoliMont, which has been in operation for more than 50 years, is actually a private club. It has a membership base that, for an assortment of reasons, is very passionate about the club.

But this isn’t your father’s country club.  People become members at HoliMont because of its family-friendly atmosphere just as much as they do because of the area’s pristinely groomed slopes and snowmaking abilities.

With an emphasis on children-focused ski school programs that teach young members proper skiing/snowboarding mechanics, safety, and most importantly…fun, the HoliMont experience is one that is enjoyed by all age groups.

Experience HoliMont. It’s more than just a marketing slogan. It’s more like a lifestyle suggestion; a “word to the wise,” if you will.

You can check out www.holimont.com or follow the club on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. You will see plenty of great content and some action packed photos, but it still won’t give you the true feeling of what it is like to be at the Club on a Saturday morning in February after Ellicottville has been blanketed with mounds of fresh snow and the HoliMont Mountain Crew has been hard at work creating corduroy-covered slopes all night long.  On those days you will find out exactly what the edges on your skis are made for or how floating through the glades on a snowboard is as thrilling as any feature in the terrain park.

It’s the little intricacies that make HoliMont a special place to belong.  This club was founded on family values, hard work and a deep-rooted love of skiing.  So while the club has definitely evolved over the years, the one thing that has never changed is that it offers a one-of-a-kind family atmosphere.

There are HoliMont Members who have been involved with the club for 45, even all 50+, years.  They will tell stories of hiking the hills in the off-season in order to remove any large rocks that might protrude through the snow and damage skis once winter arrived. Or about how the Main Chalet also once doubled as the garage for the first snow groomer purchased by the club. (It’s entirely possible that it was the other way around.)  Or maybe you’ll hear about how the chairlifts used to have numbers (i.e. One, Two, Three) for names instead of being called Meadow or Cascade.  Through it all, though, what you will find is that becoming a Member at HoliMont is about more than involvement in a club; it essentially becomes a home away from home…a vacation you can enjoy every weekend throughout the winter.

Perhaps membership just isn’t for you though.  Not to worry.  HoliMont still has you covered.  Many years ago the HoliMont Board of Directors made the decision to open HoliMont to non-members on weekdays (the week between Christmas and New Years is the only time this is not applicable).  This change made it possible for any winter enthusiast to experience a private ski club during off peak times.

It’s not uncommon for people to use vacation days in order to take advantage of HoliMont’s Weekday Experience Pass (10 non-transferrable lift tickets and 5 ski school clinics for rates as low as $215).  And since the weekday traffic is considerably less than weekend traffic, it really is as if you have a private ski area all to yourself at times.  This is an especially nice feeling when you are at the top of a black diamond run and you look down only to see that there is no one below you.  You have the entire slope to yourself to enjoy as you test the true capabilities of your skis.

If you have been to HoliMont, then you probably have an idea of what the HoliMont experience is all about, because it really is something that you have to take in first hand.  If that’s the case, then HoliMont looks forward to seeing you back this season.  With the club’s new high-speed quad, Exhibition Express, you’ll be able to get in more skiing/snowboarding than ever before.

But if you have yet to give this quaint ski area a try, put it on your “to do” list.  More likely than not you’ll be glad you did.
