Artwork at the Library – currently we have artwork in our gallery area that was created by Ellicottville native Kevin Lacy who has made traveling a major part of his life. Now based in Los Angeles, CA, Kevin is pursuing his travel passion through photography. “I hope that someone can be inspired by these images as I was the moment they were captured”. Come check out these amazing photographs.
The Total Solar Eclipse of 2017 – April 19th 7-8:30 pm This class will be led by long time amateur astronomer Bert Probst and each is structured for adults and young adults over the age of 16. If interested, please call (716- 699-2842) to register.
– In August of 2017 a total solar eclipse will cross our country from Oregon to South Carolina. This will be the first time since 1979 that any part of the continental US has experienced a total solar eclipse. Viewing a total solar eclipse is a once in a lifetime event that relatively few people ever experience. During totality the daytime sky darkens to reveal the solar corona, stars and planets. We will view photographs from previous eclipses as well as objects to observe during this eclipse of 2017. Join this class to understand the geometry of eclipses and the infinite difference between total and partial eclipses. We will also cover safe methods to view solar eclipses. The next total solar eclipse in the US will occur in 2024 and will have a surprise for western New Yorkers.
