The 2015 Eddie Szpaicher Golf Classic is one of the area’s most enduring tournaments as hundreds have joined in to play and honor their friend and colleague, the late Ed Szpaicher. But the event has another purpose. It raises funds for the Ed Szpaicher Memorial Awards, a scholarship program that already has awarded $10,000 to deserving, college-bound ECS students in its first three years of existence.

The 2015 award winners are Hannah Doro, who will attend St. Lawrence University in the fall, and Molly Woodarek, who is headed to Jamestown Community College.

The July 15 classic will raise funds for next year’s awardees, so get your registration in for the fourth annual tournament today!

“We’re running at about the same registration numbers as last year,” said event organizer Jay Stoddard. “People seem to wait until the two weeks prior to the tournament to sign up, so we hope to have everyone registered by July 10 or so. But we can always make room for someone.”

The party starts the night before the classic with early registration (and packet pickup with pre-paid registration) from 6-8 p.m. at the Holiday Valley Cabana Bar. Each registrant will receive two drink coupons and hors d’oeuvres will be available. Fred ‘N Tuck will perform live music and the first 50 registrants will receive a gift. There will also be a Closest to the Pin Contest. Guests who are not playing in the tournament may attend the Tuesday kick-off party for just $25.

It’s a good idea to register early to avoid the rush on tournament day, but onsite registration will be available at 7 a.m. and at noon.

Wednesday’s shotgun starts are at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The day ends with 6 p.m. cocktails at the Cabana Bar followed by a 7 p.m. dinner.

Cost is $125 for both golf and dinner and $50 for dinner only.

Full registration includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch, drink coupons (two if you register Tuesday night), beer on the course, complimentary gifts, dinner, entertainment and a free pass to the Holiday Valley pools.

Check payments only are being accepted now and must be mailed to P.O. Box 131, Ellicottville, NY 14731. Be sure to list the names of all players in your group along with morning or afternoon tee time preference.
