The Ellicottville Little Eagles are headed to the playoffs! Both the Midgets and Pee Wee teams secured Cattaraugus County Midget Football League “A” Bowl playoff berths with victories over the Randolph Raiders on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Finishing the regular season with an overall 6 -1 record, the Midget team executed a 30-14 victory with touchdowns by Leif Jimerson, Ryan DeKay, and a career-first touchdown by Caleb Dubel. “We had another strong game led by the defensive line, including an exciting interception by Xander Ireland,” said Tim Grinols, head coach.
After a rather difficult loss the previous week to the Salamanca Sabers, the Ellicottville Eagles Pee Wee team ended the regular season with an overall 5-2 record, and 21-12 victory over the Raiders. “I think the kids were still sleeping Sunday afternoon. They watched the Raiders score on their first offensive play of the game; once they scored, we woke up and played pretty good football on both sides of the ball,” said head coach Mark Chudy.
Touchdowns were scored by Owen Chudy, Xavier Peters, and Carter Smith. Extra points were run in by Carter Smith, Hunter Smith, and Josh Auman. Defensive efforts were led by Hunter Smith with eight tackles.
Coach Chudy added, “The play of the game was a 45-yard touchdown by Peters and his blue squad. The kids were happy to get the W. They have never beaten Randolph and the coaches haven’t won a game against them in probably five years.”
The Pee Wees will face the Franklinville Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Ellicottville Central School.
