In youth wrestling this week, three Ellicottville Central School (ECS) students competed in tournaments in Kane, PA, and Buffalo respectively. Simon Clark wrestled in the Kane tournament on Saturday and came home with a third-place finish in his weight class.

On Sunday, grapplers Zac Clark and Noah Morlock competed in a Buffalo Wrestling Club tournament. Clark brought home second in his weight class and Morlock won all of his matches to bring home first place overall in his weight class. Morlock is ranked in New York in his age and weight class and recently competed in tournaments in Nevada, Michigan and in NY at Cornell University. Congratulations to all three of these young men.

In boys’ basketball, the varsity team traveled to Hinsdale on Friday and walked away with an 80-27 non-conference victory. The team was led by junior Cameron Eddy with 17 points; junior Jonas Hurlburt and freshman Elliot Bowen had 16 points each. Bowen and Griffin Chudy led the team in rebounding and freshman Austin Grinols led the team in assists on the night.

The team returned to action Tuesday night against rival Franklinville and lost a hard-fought battle 56-47. Freshman Griffin Chudy and Elliot Bowen led the Eagles in scoring with 14 and 10 points and each had double digit rebounds, while Phalla Musall and Austin Grinols chipped in 8 and 7 points respectively.

The undersized JV squad also lost its battle with Franklinville. The team was led by Jay Magara and Austin Whitmer with 9 points each; Noah Stuve had 8 points to pace the JV squad.

In girls’ basketball, the Eagles Varsity and JV teams competed in the JCC Holiday tournament with Varsity picking up 3rd place and JV finishing 4th. The Varsity team finished the week 1-2 with a win over Cassadaga Valley and losses to Southwestern and Franklinville. Sophomore standout Marisa Hamilton led the team in the scoring department over the three-game series with totals of 12, 25 and 17 points, respectively, which also earned her a spot on the JCC All Tournament Team. Freshman Evie Cortez had 7, 10 and 9 points. Senior Alexis Woodin and junior Cheyenne Maybee also contributed offensively and defensively over the three-game stretch.

The girls’ JV team got a win on Monday night as they downed the Franklinville Panthers JV squad. The team was led by Jenna Aldrich and Madison Harris with 12 and 14 points, respectively, and Sierra Maybee chipped in 9 tough points in the paint. Emily Durandetto and Janel Stuve also scored for the Eagles.
