Springville – Dr. Edwin Heidelberger has recently been appointed Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) of Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.
As VPMA, Dr. Heidelberger will act as a liaison between the medical staff, administration and the hospital’s board of directors. One of his primary responsibilities will be to coordinate clinical activities and resources of the hospital in ways that will enhance efficiency in delivering quality healthcare while emphasizing patient safety. He will also contribute to the hospital’s emergency preparedness activities. As a first step toward this goal, Dr. Heidelberger will serve as the physician chair of the Quality Initiative Multidisciplinary Committee.
“This committee will focus on all clinical aspects that make up our services, including the emergency department and the hospitalist program,” said Dr. Heidelberger.
In December 2013, Bertrand Chaffee Hospital welcomed Dr. Heidelberger to its active medical staff. Dr. Heidelberger, known by his patients as “The Country Doctor,” has been a resident of the Springville community for almost 20 years and is very excited about being back in the area to see former and new patients at the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Primary Care Center.
Dr. Heidelberger obtained his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences concurrent with a Ph.D. in physiology. After completing a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the State University of New York at Buffalo, he became board certified in pediatrics and internal medicine.
Dr. Heidelberger, who reports to the board of directors, will give updates at monthly meetings with regards to quality and patient satisfaction.
“I am very enthusiastic about being involved in the quality assurance program at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital,” added Dr. Heidelberger.
Dr. Heidelberger will work in close partnership with Dr. Robbin Hansen, president of Bertrand Chaffee Hospital’s medical staff.
Dr. Heidelberger will be a driving influence in addressing patient care issues.
“Since Dr. Heidelberger was appointed VPMA, we have seen a positive impact in the overall quality of the care we deliver,” stated Nils Gunnersen, CEO of Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.
