Dr. Frederick K. VanDeusen, Jr., 75, of 829 West Washington St., passed away Thursday (Oct. 3, 2013) at The Pavilion at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 14, 1937, in Fort Edward, N.Y., he was a son of the late Frederick K. and Frances Smith VanDeusen Sr.

Dr. VanDeusen was a 1955 graduate of Schuylerville High School; he was also a 1961 graduate of Cornell University of Veterinary Medicine, where he received his doctorate.

After college, he worked in the Machias Veterinary clinic for one year. In May of 1962, he owned and operated his own veterinary clinic in Otto, N.Y., and then in 1985 he moved to Bradford and opened the Bradford Veterinary Clinic, which he operated until his death.

He was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity and was actively involved with the Student Agencies at Cornell University. He was a contributor to Operation Smile and for 25 years at Child Fund and Children International.

Surviving are two sons, Frederick K. VanDeusen III of Allegany, N.Y., and Timothy L. VanDeusen of Ithaca, N.Y.; a sister, Mary Renois of Lake George, N.Y.; a brother, Spencer VanDeusen of Glenns Falls, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Ryan Barta, Devan Barta and Shayne VanDeusen; his former wife, Rosamond Haire VanDeusen of Otto, N.Y.; and two nieces and one nephew.

Private services will be held at the convenience of family with the Rev. W. LeRoy Beckes, retired pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
