Explore your creative side by taking part in the Cattaraugus County Arts Council’s upcoming events this summer! The CCAC, located at 100 West Main Street in Allegany, is dedicated to promoting “the creation, presentation and appreciation of arts and culture in the region while nurturing education and commerce in the arts.” Whether you are an artist, an aspiring artist or lover of the arts, the CCAC has several events this summer that will inspire you.

The CCAC offers adult classes year ‘round at Art on Main Studio, the area’s only fully equipped professional art studio, also located at 100 West Main Street in Allegany. Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome to take part in the adult classes, and prospective students can register online at

This Friday, June 30, artist Samila Sosic will be teaching a Splatter and Spirits workshop from 6-9 p.m. Students can bring their favorite beverage and enjoy painting a colorful fish in this fun class. All painting supplies will be provided, and the cost is just $35.

Interested in pottery? On July 12, 19, 26 and Aug. 2 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Pamela Delyannis will be teaching a Vases, Jars & Jugs pottery series to build on basic pottery skills. The class also includes glazing, and all supplies and tools are included. Class fee is $110 for CCAC members and $120 for non-members.

Explore a new medium in Jennifer Godbout’s Painting with Alcohol Inks class on July 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This class is great for experienced artists, as well as beginners, and teaches students how to use this unique, fluid medium on both Yupo tile and palette paper. Since alcohol ink dries quickly, students will leave with multiple finished pieces and handouts that include a supply lists and sources. This workshop includes all materials and is $35 for CCAC members and $45 for non-members.

One of the main ways the CCAC supports and promotes local artists is through their art galleries, both at the CCAC and the Olean Public Library. Saturday, July 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. is the opening for artist Jennifer Godbout’s alcohol ink paintings, which will be on display through August. From July 7 through Aug. 25, Merriam Ryding’s nature paintings will be on display at the Olean Public Library Art Gallery located at 134 North 2nd Street in Olean.

The CCAC and the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce invite you to enjoy an afternoon of delicious food, inspiring art, and family-friendly fun at their annual Taste of Olean/Art in the Park event! On Sunday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the War Vets Park on State Street in Olean will be hosting this popular festival, where visitors can sample a variety of foods and drinks from area restaurants, while enjoying fine art and crafts at this juried festival.

According to CCAC Executive Director Tina Hastings, “This will be the 68th year that Art in the Park will be held. The Arts Council has run the event for about 15 years.”

Artists come from all over the region, including Olean, Franklinville, Fredonia and Pennsylvania. “This year we have eight new vendors participating, which is the most new participants we’ve had,” said Hastings.

Visitors can expect an impressive range of items at Art in the Park, which is accepting vendor applications until July 9. Hastings explained, “It is a fine arts and artisan kind of event, so we’re looking for all kinds of art: fiber arts, pottery, even artisan soap makers with great packaging and great design. We have jewelry makers, painters, and photographers. One of our new artists is an artist that works in paper making and creates gorgeous paper flowers.” Those who wish to participate as a vendor can contact Hastings at (716)372-7455 or visit
