BOCES-Manufacturing-CampAre you a teen about to enter grades 9-12?  Do you like making things, working with your hands, solving problems and understanding how things are made?

Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES is offering a special FREE Summer Manufacturing Camp at its Career and Technical Education Center at Olean. The FREE program is open to area students entering grades 9-12 and is being sponsored by the BOCES CTE Division and the Southern Tier Advanced Manufacturing Initiative. Campers are invited to learn how things are made, learn about and prepare for exciting careers in manufacturing, and make new friends.

Camp will take place Aug. 12-16 (M-F) from 8:30 a.m.–3p.m. daily. Students are asked to please bring a bag lunch. Call (716) 376-8383 for details and to register for the free camp.

You will learn about the exciting and rewarding world of modern manufacturing and machining. Using a project-based learning model, students will work on a design, make products, and gain an understanding of:

Design — an introduction to blueprint reading, precision measurement, the design process, product evolution, and invention/innovation

Manufacturing — machine operations, tool selection/setting, part programming, trouble shooting, and threading.

Campers also will learn to program machine tools — including computer numerical controlled mills and lathes — to accurately machine parts.
