Allegany State Park (ASP) looks forward to spectacular light shows by the rare synchronous firefly, once thought to only exist in a handful of places in the world.
The displays are best observed in a dark, mature forest in order to experience the full affect.
This summer, ASP’s Environmental Education Department will be offering hikes to view these amazing insects, which were first seen at the park in 2012.
The fireflies only flash for a few weeks (late June to mid -July), so now is the time to check them out!
Firefly Walks will take place on July 8 and 11, at 9:30 p.m. on France Brook Rd. Site 29, near the entrance to Group Camp 12.
