Are you someone who enjoys spending time in Allegany State Park? Or are you someone looking to give back to your local community? Then why not join us for a few hours at Allegany State Park as we celebrate National Public Lands Day –our 12th year of participation!

National Public Lands Day is our nation’s largest one-day event designed to give people a chance to give back to the public lands they love by volunteering a few hours working on a variety of service projects that both enhance the park and the visitor experience.

This year’s event takes place Saturday, Sept. 24 on the Red House side of the park. We have lots of cool projects in the works!

The day will start off with check-in/registration from 9- 10 a.m. at the Red House Toll Booth. Service Projects will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a chicken barbeque dinner at the Red House picnic shelter (for a nominal fee) at 4 p.m. Participants are asked to come dressed for the weather and to get dirty.

This event will be held rain or shine. We ask that attendees pre-register by Sept. 19 by contacting the Environmental Education/Recreation Department at (716) 354-9101 ext. 236 or We will also gladly accept walk-in volunteers the day of the event. Please use the above contacts if you would like more information. To learn more about National Public Lands Day, go to
