The Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) is pleased to invite the public to their biannual Member Show, opening on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Olean Public Library Gallery and the Jamestown Community College Center Gallery in Olean. The exhibition will feature the work of 26 arts council member artists and will include painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media and more.
CCAC’s Member Show celebrates the wealth of talent in the greater Cattaraugus County region and features artwork from both new and returning member artists.
Tina Hastings, executive director of the arts council noted, “In addition to the Center Gallery at JCC, we are excited to add a second venue, the Olean Public Library Gallery, to host this year’s member show. By doubling the exhibition space, we were able to remove any size restrictions that were previously imposed on our artists and the result is a wonderfully diverse, expansive exhibition. This additional venue will also allow the show to reach a much broader audience. We are so grateful for our continued partnership with both JCC and OPLG.”
The Member Show is open to all arts council members and each applicant is guaranteed at least one entry to be accepted into the exhibition. Jurors for the show included Sharon McConnell, gallery director of the Fosdick-Nelson Gallery at Alfred University, and Sara Zak, fine artist and community organizer in Buffalo, N.Y. The jurors will select a Best of Show winner along with three Honorable Mention awards. The winners will receive a group show scheduled for early 2015 at the JCC Center Gallery.
Dual opening receptions for the Member Show will begin at the Olean Public Library Gallery, corner of Laurens Street at 134 N. 2nd Street, at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20. The celebration will continue with a reception the same evening from 7-9 p.m. at The Center Gallery at JCC in Olean featuring happy hour refreshments, hors d’oeuvres by Sheila Darrow and an awards ceremony at 8 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public. The Center Gallery is located on the second floor of the College Center building at 260 North Union St. (enter doors from North Union and make an immediate right up the stairs to the second floor gallery).
The show will hang at both venues through Oct. 25 and is free and open to the public during gallery hours. For more information, call (716) 372-7455.
