Art in the Park: Olean’s original outdoor art show celebrates its 64th anniversary. The event is produced by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) and held in conjunction with Taste of Olean, sponsored by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, July 28, noon–6 p.m. on the Olean campus of Jamestown Community College (JCC).

Art in the Park is a one-day, juried outdoor art exhibition dedicated to excellence in the visual arts as well as enhancing and promoting the visual arts and the talented artists in the area. This outdoor event attracts over 6,000 people.

Once again, artists will be interspersed with the Taste of Olean vendors on JCC’s central lawn, adding a creative flair.

Art in the Park provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and talk with regional artists, and the 2013 event will include live music, face painting and additional family entertainment.

“Art in the Park and Taste of Olean are a wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon. Sample our regional arts and culture by sampling the wide variety of food from local restaurants, by picking up a treasure from one of the artists, and letting your kids have their face painted by one of our volunteers,” said Anne Conroy-Baiter, executive director of CCAC.

Artist applications are still being accepted with an additional late fee of $20. Applications and information are available at www.myartscouncil.net, by calling (716) 372-7455 or e-mailing heather@myartscouncil.net.

Taste of Olean: Taste of Olean is an annual event showcasing delectable food samples from area restaurants. This gastronomic delight is co-sponsored by the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce and its 47 corporate sponsors.

Meme Yanetsko, executive director of GOACC, said, “This year, the Taste Committee has added farmers markets to its booth vendors. This event has always focused on local art, local musicians, local restaurants … we are encouraged that farmers markets will be coming this year — showcasing their farm fresh to table tastes.”

There’s surely a taste of something for everyone and it’s a great way to sample a variety of regional and specialty foods from healthy options to decadent treats and everything in between. Most samples range from 50 cents to $3.50.

Each year the event also includes lots of great entertainment by local talent inside the CUTCO Theater and on the outdoor stage. The Olean Family YMCA will bring their inflatables for the younger crowd to enjoy.

Inside shows include the Olean Irish Dancers, Studio 107 Chamber Players, Best Chef, a performance by Olean Theatre Workshop students and more. On the outside stage, you’ll see the Olean Area African Drum Ensemble, a sneak preview of “Les Miserable,” Barbershoppers – Seneca Junction Chorus, Chordiac Arrest and others.

The seventh annual Hospitality Wall of Fame will recognize this year’s individuals and/or businesses who have made a significant contribution and given exceptional service to the food service/ hospitality industry in the past and who may continue to do so.
