In the center of Amish country is a one-day festival worth visiting in Leon, N.Y. The event is June 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located about 15 miles south of  Gowanda on Route 62. Leon is a small crossroads populated by more Old Order Amish than English.

On June 18, the Amish ladies will be teaching classes on quilting and basket weaving. All materials needed are included and you take home your quilt square potholder or basket. Ride to the museum in a horse drawn wagon, where you can take a trip back in time to the late 19th and early 20th century. See pictures of the Pennyroyal Racetrack in Leon that highlighted dirt track stock car racing in the 1940’s through 1960’s. See if you can find Leon’s connection to NASCAR!

Enjoy the demonstrations and displays featuring locally produced arts and crafts available from numerous local vendors, Amish and English. Handmade soap, candles, wood items, old fashion toys, huge donuts, pie, popcorn, Amish ice cream, and more. You may be surprised at what you find!
