Bernie & Gail Play for the EVL Food Pantry

By Alicia Dziak

A staple on Ellicottville’s main drag, the Gin Mill is known for its fun atmosphere, tasty food and hoppin’ entertainment lineup. And when you combine all of those elements into a reason to give back? Even better!

Stop in to the Gin Mill on Sundays through the spring and check out Acoustic Sundays with Bernie and Gail. The duo of Gail Pearles and Bernie Dotterweich, of the Blue Mule Band, have teamed up to perform on Sunday afternoons from 1 to 3 p.m. Instead of being paid for their time, they ask only for donations that go directly to the Ellicottville Food Pantry. If you need an excuse to get out, this is it. It’s a win-win!

“We asked ourselves, ‘what can we do to help?’” said Pearles. “And this is our way of giving back.”

While Blue Mule Band specializes in a blend of Americana, bluegrass and folk music (a.k.a. “Mulegrass”), Pearles notes that they play “very spur of the moment” on Acoustic Sundays, playing everything from Pure Prairie League to Janis Joplin to Jimmy Buffett. Definitely something for everyone!

After four weeks, Acoustic Sundays have already raised $650 for the food pantry. “Our goal is to raise $2,015 in 2015,” explained Pearles.

You know you want to help them meet and exceed that goal! Stop into the Gin Mill to listen to some great music and support a great community cause.

“Bernie and Gail’s donation of their time and talents to benefit the food pantry is the epitome of caring and kindness,” said Maribeth Rick, owner of the Gin Mill. “Our community is a better place because of these two great people. We are thrilled that we have the opportunity to supply them with a forum and are proud to be their partner.”
