The second annual Ed Szpaicher Memorial Golf Classic is right around the corner so be sure to get in on action.
The event will kick off with a party on Tuesday evening, July 16 with Freddie N’ Tuck playing crowd favorite tunes at The Ellicottville Depot restaurant.
With a personality and generosity as big as Eddie’s, it’s no wonder Ellicottville will never forget Big Ed Szpaicher.
“My dad would have been so honored to be a part of an event like this and I know that he is always watching over us helping us along the way. We are looking forward to another great event this year,” said Ed’s daughter, Mila Szpaicher Clauss.
Golf begins Wednesday with morning and afternoon shotgun starts. All morning shotgun players will receive a complimentary day pass to enjoy the pools at Holiday Valley, so plan to spend the rest of your day relaxing poolside with your golfing companions.
Then enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres poolside, followed by a fabulous dinner served on the second floor of the brand new Holiday Valley Lodge.
All net proceeds from the event will go directly to the Eddie Szpaicher Scholarship Fund, with awards going to deserving Ellicottville Central School college-bound graduates.
“We recently awarded two ECS seniors with my dad’s memorial scholarship ($2,500 each) at graduation and I know the selection committee picked two really deserving winners!” said Clauss.
The first recipient was Caitlin Toth, who will be attending Geneseo in the fall, and the second winner was Clauss’ sister, Madison Szpaicher, who will be going to Alfred State.
Clauss said, “For me personally, it was very moving to see this scholarship fund come full circle over the course of a year a half — from the planning stages, the actual tournament, getting applicants for the scholarship, and finally awarding the scholarship at graduation!”
Fees are unchanged this year: Tuesday party $25, dinner only $50, golf and dinner $100, and party, golf and dinner $125.
According to Clauss, the tournament is about 60 percent full, so place your reservations soon.
